The biggest problem with having replies go back to the original poster instead of the list is that on one else will be able to learn from the answers to question that was asked, and the mailing list archives will become useless as a source for information..
That's why Internet email evolved "Reply" and "Reply All" as distinct functions, and IMO a person should be able to intuitively understand that distinction and use it to the mutual advantage of all.
That's my gripe against the way it works now.
