I have used the cron job before, and it worked fine, but didn't seem to be more than a hack to me. I found that if I turned off the "Subscribe for MWI" flag in the GS config page, and it stopped losing registration.
Excuse me, but where do You find the "Subscribe for MWI" flag? What firmware version?
The closest I find is either register expiration or keep alive timers, but I guess You'll need both those working.

The MWI still works, it just stops sending the subscribe packets to the * box. YMMV.
