The Mepis Debian distro is pre-configured for *, www.mepis.org They spent a lot of time making Mepis work with * out of the box.
Everyone has their own very strong opinions on which distro is better. I'm not about to get into that. All I can say is Mepis is probably your fastest easiest way to get * running. You can get Linux installed and * running VERY quickly if you start with Mepis.
