With a run of 4 miles, it’s a safe bet that some segments will be (as others have pointed out) beyond the 100 meter limit of ethernet. In practice, under optimal conditions, you can fudge this a bit (sometimes a lot) but I wouldn't count on it. For the longer hauls, you might want to consider point-to-point DSL, using something like this http://www.paradyne.com/products/SNE2000/ Conceivably, if you own the copper, you could do anything you want with it. -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
