I knew I should have ordered more than one extra (someone beat you to
my reserve).

The ??? portion is called an FXS (Foreign Exchange Station I think...)

As for other cards, I bought a Digium TDM400P with 1 FXO, and 1 FXS
port through netvoice.ca last week, and it finally arrived yesterday
(8 calendar days). Apparently my definition of "expedited service",
and Canada Post's differs drastically. The total ended up being
$313.21 CND.

I'm happy with it so far (just got it set up this morning). I
initially panicked when I got the following message when attempting to
load the drivers:

Mar 17 04:32:27 localhost kernel: Freshmaker failed register test
Mar 17 04:32:27 localhost kernel: wctdm: probe of 0000:02:04.0 failed
with error -5

But then I calmed down, and realised I'd built the drivers for the
linux 2.4 kernel, not linux 2.6. After I stopped doing stupid things,
it worked fine, and I was able to place calls between my laptop and a
plain old telephone plugged into the FXS port. There's something
really cool about plugging your trusty old phone into a computer that
only has an ethernet cable going into it, and getting a dialtone.

If you don't mind using more than one PCI slot, the TDM Developer kit
costs a bit less, and comes with a TDM400P with 1 FXS module and an
X100P FXO card.

Andrew mentioned that he bought his equipment directly from Digium,
and that the shipping was far faster, but I don't know how much he
paid for shipping and brokerage fees.

But as we were discussing before, the TDM400P is a pretty expensive
way to get FXS ports for your home phonesets. The first port costs you
$179, and each additional one is $110... At that price, you might as
well buy SIP phones.
