I am sure that the poor audio quality was caused by the analog and
acoustic end. I was sitting at the back of the room and had to deal with
a very poor acoustics. In future, a direct connection into the digital
"box" using a separate mic would perform best for audio broadcasting,
this way one doesn't have to rely on unknown PA systems.
Typically, when connecting analog audio equipment up to a digital
interface there is a mismatch in the impedance (resistance), A PA
mic/mixer is usually 600 ohms and the digital mic input on a typical
PC is about 10Kohms with a DC bias of about 3volts the resulting
distortion would be very noticeable.
Anyway, it was a valiant effort.
