Hi Philip,

Also make sure you have the following lines in iax.conf:

jitterbuffer=yes
dropcount=1 ; ...to drop at most 0.5% of VoIP packets

Also make sure you provisioned it using ULAW (not ADPCM).
It can easily be verified by adding these lines in iax.conf:
disallow=all
allow=ulaw

...and don't allow any other codecs.

With 120 ms latency you might not get away the echo either way...

Our IAXy customers does not experience any echo with this setup, but it
might not be of importance in this case, since their latency is not that
high.

Philip,

Make sure you are testing with good quality phones and without headsets.
Don't test with any cordless/wireless phone or headsets.

I've seen a problem where a customer was using a Plantronic wireless
headset and was complaining about echo on our network. I got him to use
the phone's handset instead of the headset and the problem was gone!!!!

Good luck,

Subject: [on-asterisk] Iaxy issues

After much battle over email and even a tech support call to digium
which they in tern said sorry we cant figure it out but we will sell you
a support pakage and have a support level above us figure it out. I am
brutally angry with digium especially since I am a reseller and have
sold alot of there gear.

So if anyone can help me figure out the problem stated below that would
be most appreciated by the many people out here with Iaxys

There problem is there is occasionally mild to really bad echo.
this has nothing to do with the pstn , this portion has been debugged to
death secondly it happans when there is an iaxy to iaxy call, so this
dosnt even touch the pstn !!!! ive checked latencys and they all seem to
be 120ms and less 120 being the worst, jitter is usually non exsistent
to 0003ms so that is absolutly nothing.
The system is using the latest asterisk as of a few days ago 1.0.x
branch and is an amd 2800+ running on centos 2.6

Can anyone please point me in the direction to fix this issue before i
just blacklist digium hardware.

Thanks,
A very frustrated Phil
