Leif and Shidan, your concerns are noted and I appreciate the feedback.

Regarding fees, I think you missed the portion of the web site which
says the following:

"Details of CAVP membership requirements are being developed. Until
complete membership requirements are developed there are no restrictions
or membership fees required. You may simply join the CAVP mailing
list ."

The rest of the membership section is marked "DRAFT" to indicate roughly
what we expect to be ratified but its still open for debate.

The stage we are at now is that "core group of people" you suggested. If
you would like to be one of them this is your opportunity to participate
as a founding member. If you would rather wait until the "core group"
has finished its work and we are fully operational I certainly
understand.

I think the by-laws on the web site (which also won't be officially
ratified until the next meeting) pretty much spell out everything with
regards to ownership etc.

In short the Association will be owned by its members who will elect
board members. The board members will then appoint people (volunteers)
to the required positions etc.

There are a lot of government requirements and we are slowly making our
way through them all.

If I can try to put your mind at ease, this is a real industry trade
organization with full not-for-profit status (pending) owned and
operated by the membership. You are welcome to join now and see how
things go as it will probably be at least a few months before we start
charing fees so really there is no risk.
