Right Jim,My house also didn't have a bix. Was hard wired, so had to just snip the line and go from there. Home Depot carries 3 way RJ11 splitter boxes. The carry a standard box type and also a wall mount style. The wall mount style was cheaper for some reason so that is what I went with.
Was just as simple as match the colors ( red & green being your first line ), then on the other side I put standard single RJ11 box for the wiring for the house phones.

RJ11 to house phones
Took all of 20 minutes to do it all. Main delay was making sure I did it
when the wife was out, so that if I did screw up I had some time to
figure it out and correct before she got home.

One solution for this is to deliver the unfiltered signal on pair 2 (the outside pair, black/yellow I think) and then put the filtered signal on pair 1. Then all you have to do is rig something up at the modem jack so that lines 1 and 2 are swapped.Having said all that, a bix tool costs aroun $60-$90 so if you don't have one you could save yourself some coin and grief by just springing for the extra filters. Most homes also do not have a bix, so I doubt you would need a bix tool.Just grab a couple of surface-mount phone jacks, wire it up like Dave suggests and put the filter between them.--*John Van Ostrand* *Net Direct Inc.* /Director of Technology/ 564 Weber St. N.
