Don't take it personally - they'll hit any open SSH port with attempted brute force. But they seem to stop when they can no longer connect. I've used tcp-wrappers to just block the attacking IPs and they've gone away almost immediately. Of course, if you're getting hit from lots of different IPs, that's more complicated. You could of course (as you mentioned) allow only some IPs to your SSH port (with tcp-wrappers) which is slightly more 'set and forget'. Annoying, yup, but the only reasonable thing is to block in some way, either tcp-wrappers, or a firewall, or some port-knocking trick. But tcp-wrappers is easy. Cheers John
