****TAUG has been running successfully since its conception and has been providing a wealth of asterisk knowledge to its Toronto and surrounding area members. Discussion arose both on the TAUG mailling list and after local meetings about a way to share this wealth of knowledge with others that were unable to attend the local meetings.
The TAUG Podcast is born. Our mission is very much like the TAUG mission to promote the use and success of open-source telephony but on a worldwide scale. We will package the presentation from the TAUG meeting in such a way that anyone can follow along who missed the meeting or are on the other side of the world and won't be able to attend. With the help of the internet and podcasting technology, we are able to do just that. The TAUG Podcast crew is currently made up of: Simon Ditner as Coordinator Alex Robar as Production/Technical staff Blaine Aldridge also as Production/Technical staff The entire TAUG Podcast crew can be contacted via email taugpodcast at gmail dot com The TAUG Podcast website address is *http://taug.ca/podcast * *Our first release:* Jim Van Meggelen <http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/au/2177> president/CTO of Core Telecom Innovations and author of Asterisk: The Future of Telephony<http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/asterisk/>gives a talk on VoIP Enabling a Legacy PBX at TAUG. This is a Enhanced Podcast.* More about this below. To watch the TAUG Podcast currently iTunes is required. The podcast is free. You just need to use iTunes as the software to get/watch the podcast.http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Once you have iTunes installed it is as simple as clicking http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=138847744and once the page loads in your iTunes browser clicking subscribe. Another way to find us is by visiting the iTunes store (again, this podcast is free) within the iTunes software, clicking Podcasts (on the left hand side) and typing in the search box TAUG and then click subscribe on the TAUG Podcast. A Enhanced Podcast is a fancy way of saying audio with synced slides/pictures. This way while Jim is talking, it is easy to follow along. If you visit http://taug.ca/podcast , there is a nice excerpt from apple's docs which explains some more of the features of a Enhanced Podcast. The menu to jump between slides is in a different location on Windows iTunes. It's on the right-hand side of the seek bar instead of the left. If you don't see the slides after starting to play the audio in iTunes, click edit at the top of iTunes and click show artwork. You can click the slide in the small artwork box at the bottom left for a full view of it. Currently, due to the dimensions of the slides and readability, you will want to watch the podcast on your computer as opposed to an ipod. If you have any technical problems getting the file to play or getting iTunes to work you can post them to this thread and keep them ON-list so we can help everyone with the same problem. If you have suggestions or want to offer your time to help with the TAUG podcast crew please email taugpodcast at gmail dot com OFF-list. *The TAUG Podcast crew needs more help*. Currently we are looking for someone with some flash knowledge who can put together a flash version of our podcast. We already have a working example fla that does most of what we want. Just needs some more tweaking. If you think you could help with this, please email OFF-list. Audio equipment! If you have some recording equipment or suggestions please email us OFF-list. Even if you only have a microphone, we can piece together what the community has and hopefully make something. We are also looking for things we don't know we are looking for yet. Whatever you have that you think could be helpful, send us a email OFF-list. So again if you have any technical problems getting the file to play or getting iTunes to work you can post them to this thread and keep them ON-list so we can share solutions. For anything else, please email us OFF-list. Thanks, Your TAUG Podcast Crew - *http://taug.ca/podcast *
