LOL! Mark, the calling card dudes have invested at least $50-$100K behind their equipment, office, payroll etc... and no matter how much I sweet talk them to tell me who their carriers are... they have NOT BUDGED :). I even told them I'll give them a crash course on "Asterisk" to their techs :). They have not heard any such term :). It's too good to be true for them... :). A FREE/inexpensive VOIP server (relatively speaking in terms of $50-$100K) (Come on now!). The only info I've been able to sweet talk out of them is they use H323 based carriers.
Speaking of $5 prepaid calling card... try to beat this one... " Unlimited Calling across North America for 7 days upon first use for $5 bux ". I came across this pre-paid card at the Downsview Subway stand, which is just beside the escalators. You find me any carrier that provides long distance across US & Canada for even .04 cents, I'll be a HAPPY CAMPER & will buy you beer:). My experience has been the ones offering rates comparable to 1 cent has relatively good quality connection.
