Chad:

Thanks a MILLION! No, this is the high-level info I was looking for! "

Ok... now I owe you a beer also! Looks like I've got a few people on my beer

Heres the defaults on 1.2.7.1:

gate02*CLI> show codecs

INT BINARY HEX TYPE NAME DESC

          2 (1 << 1) (0x2) audio gsm (GSM)
          4 (1 << 2) (0x4) audio ulaw (G.711 u-law)

    1048576 (1 << 20) (0x100000) video h263p (H.263+ Video)

Codecs can be added as modules separate from the Asterisk binaries. Look
at the mailing list for the g729 free codecs. You copy the modules into
the asterisk directory and it finds them on startup.

Hope this helps, it may not be as high level as you're looking for, but
at least it's a start.

Chad

Subject: [on-asterisk] Default Codecs in Asterisk

During * compilation, does * install all the codecs? If not, can
someone shed some light as to what codecs are installed by default.
I've been trying to get some info on this - but while looking in my
source directory, it appears I have most codecs compiled, but those
codecs are no where else to be found except in the source directory.

Are the codecs compiled within the Asterisk binary itself or as
independent modules - accessible from the modules directory of Linux?

Any high-level info is appreciated!

Cheers!
