On a side, I just noticed that X-lite has a recording feature built in that
works pretty well. Calls are recorded to a specified location. Obviously
you could specify a folder share if you want them to all go to one
repository. Default recordings are in .wav format with a footprint of about
2MB/minute. Pretty big. Not sure if you can change this.

While far less tech/cool than having Asterisk do it, it seems to fulfill my
need of giving user instant access to their recordings.

Although, it still might be a good idea to have asterisk do it as well since
recording on X-Lite is user invoked and we all know what happens when things
are left to the user.

Duane,

You are right that it is not just that simple, I was just trying to
highlight some of the complexities.

Some links to look at:

http://www.rcfp.org/taping/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_tapping
http://www.callcorder.com/phone-recording-law.htm

And even in some of these links you will get some contradictions in the
states listed. This can be due to the dates the data was collected, and/or
the collectors inaccuracy.

Say the other person was in Maryland, well they have a totally inclusive two
party law ( everyone on call needs to be aware in the case of a conference
call ). So if you don't make the person in Maryland aware, then your
breaking Maryland State law, even if your initiating the call from Ontario.

Actually it's not that simple, when it comes to inter-state in the US, you
fall under US federal laws which tends to side with one party rather then
two party consent...

There was a website on US laws regarding recording of calls but I can't seem
to find it at present...
