I think I understand what you are saying Nabeel. So Asterisk performs the SIP reinvites like a B2BUA (Back-to-Back User Agent) maintaining the complete call state (signalling) for billing purposes but steps out of the media stream.
I think this came up one time after a TAUG meeting... I wonder if something like that is in the RFC for IAX or is being planned. Anyways interesting thoughts, Blaine Aldridge
