I wrote to Jim Webster Digium about this issue earlier today, just to be
sure that we don't have to "rename the group" as one poster suggested (I hope
that was tongue-in-cheek). Jim is the person who got us permission to use the
official * Logo on our conference brochures.

        and logo

Ian,

Thanks for your email. The "crackdown" is merely an ongoing program
intended to prevent dilution of our trademarks for overt commercial
purposes (such as in Google ads, or in website URLs) without
permission. Typically, we reserve for our formal business partners
the permission to use our trademarks for commercial purposes. Our
legal team has told us that if we don't police such use of our
trademarks, we could lose our rights to them.

Unfortunately, this effort has caused a lot of confusion in the
community, which we're actively working to correct. We are absolutely
NOT trying to prevent legitimate non-profit user's groups from using
the trademarks. The permission I gave you before stands.

I've also copied Jared Smith, who is our Community Relations Manager.
He keeps an active list of AUGs, so I want to be sure you were on
his list as well.

We appreciate your support of Asterisk, as we do that of all the contributors
and users.

Best Regards,
Jim
