Thanks for the input everyone.=A0
Rooting and changing firmware is different from SIM unlocking process on RO=
GERS HTC Dream.=A0
I have tried the PIN from the SIM paperwork and it doesn't work. And I trie=
d four different providers with activated SIMs and result is the same.
I tried to test out the theory that it's a PIN on the SIM=2C so I actually =
assigned a PIN to a SIM on another phone and then inserted it into my Roger=
s HTC Dream (G1) and the result was that then the phone asks me for SIM PIN=
 and SIM Network PIN. This proved that it's provider locked for SIM. So=2C =
that makes me=A0believe=A0that the phone is=A0definitely=A0locked and it's =
not nothing to do with the PIN.
There are numerous posts about T-Mobile giving out unlock codes for the G1 =
to work it with other providers and that is what I am looking for. Unfortun=
ately=2C I am not with T-mobile.
There are some posts on xda-developers that talks of SIM lock as well and f=
ollowing are some URLs claiming anyone with a T-Mobile contract can unlock =
