I'm sure this topic has been touched on in the past, however I'm looking
for suggestions on a open cell phone/device. I would like to install an
IAX app, so that I can register with my own asterisk server. I don't
want to use the phone/device as a conventional cell phone, I just want a
data link via the cell network to the internet, preferably using the
Bell network. Now for the hard part - I would like any non-technical
person to be able to use this device as though it were a cell phone -
keypad, ON/OFF and some memory for phone numbers.
I don't need to take pictures, send/receive text messages, download
music, movies or TV shows, just talk on a "phone". The ability to tether
this device to a computer would be a bonus.
If anyone has suggestions about a device, IAX app, or an alternate data
provider that works across Canada (not just Toronto), that would be
appreciated.
