Hey folks,
I'm still hoping eventually we'll have some authoritative
words from the man himself about the (present and future
of the) voicemail-to-email situation in AstLinux.
But in the meantime, just to reiterate and perhaps clarify
stuff I posted here on June 1:
I believe all the following to be true:
(1) Voicemail-to-email is IMPOSSIBLE when running an
_unmodified_ AstLinux _0.4.0_ installation. Full stop.
There's simply no email sending program ('MTA') included
in AstLinux 0.4.0, so no amount of tinkering in rc files can
possibly make email start working in 0.4.0, without hacking
deeper into AstLinux.
If voicemail-to-email is a must-have feature for you, your
options are the following:
(2) If you require an 'out of the box' AstLinux experience
_right now_ --- requiring only configuration and no hacking ---
your ONLY option is to downgrade to an earlier version of
AstLinux, something that does include ssmtp out of the box.
(3) If you can tolerate a bit of hacking around, and are looking
for a 0.4.0ish solution _right now_, something like the steps
I presented here on June 1 _might_ get voicemail-to-email
going for you, depending on your email needs. And hey, if
you've got more hacking time and experience, you might be
able to solve the problem properly and send Kristian a patch,
which would truly rock.
(4) If you want to run an unmodified 'out of the box' version, and
can wait some unspecified amount of time, it's certainly possible
and we hope likely that Kristian or somebody will get email working
again for 0.4.1 or whatever the next AstLinux release is numbered.
Perhaps some 'targetted donations' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] would help
option (4) become viable more quickly.
I would be thrilled to be corrected by Kristian or anybody more
knowledgeable than me on this stuff, if any of the statements
above are at all inaccurate.
Barring that, sorry not to have a better bottom line to share with
all the 0.4.0'ers...
