JR,

        Yes.  We recently changed from UDel ntpd to openntpd.  It seems that 
openntpd + uclibc do not work as well together as they should.

        If you startup an astlinux machine without a network connection but 
with NTPSERV defined, openntpd will never timeout and hang indefinitely 
as long as you are using a hostname.  If NTPSERV is an ip address, it 
finds out that the IP is unreachable and continues on its merry way.

        Users on this list and others have identified several issues with the 
resolver library in uclibc, but this seems to be particularly bad.

        The default cf.conf changed to use an ip address instead of a dns name 
to work around this issue until something better could be developed.
