Gene's thread got me thinking about my next project. Below are some related questions.
I'm doing an install with two offices, each without about 10 extensions but quite low usage. I've decided to forego the bells and whistles of trixbox for the low power, no moving parts of AstLinux. It seems to me that since most of the calls will be internal and there will rarely if ever be 4 or more calls outbound (usually 1 or less), that I can get away with using a 4801 instead of an Epia 600MHz or so. I intend to handle a remaining FXO line and some analog extensions using a Mediatrix 1104 which also gives me power failover - and thus it means I won't need a TDM400 card or similar. Most inbound calls will come over this line (it will forward on busy to a voip DID). Pros and Cons for the 4801 over the Epia I have so far are: + cheaper + simpler to debug (just need a laptop with serial port) + less searching for a supplier :-) - less powerful CPU/RAM - e.g. fewer transcoded calls Not a long list, because they seem fairly similar from AstLinux's perspective. But I'm sure I'm missing some things. What are they? Also, any suggested suppliers for the EPIA boards? Especially rackmount? THere are quite a few at this site, http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/store/motherboards/EPIA_MII_6000. There are others too, but most seem focused on the Myth TV type market which is a different feature set. thanks in advance... michael PS: I intend to write up the responses and put them in the wiki. _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.kriscompanies.com/mailman/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
