Graham:

I have recently done this using both the standard Astlinux firewall and the
new Arno's firewall that was provided as an option in the build starting
with 0.4.3 ... While I am not sharp enough to write an idiot proof "how to",
I think I might be able to help you stuggle through the setup if you have
any specific questions ...

The toughest part for me was setting up the "KEYS" and getting them properly
located on the two Astlinux boxes ... So my first suggestion would be to pay
particular attention to the instructions about how to create and deploy your
"KEYS" ... I messed this up about 10 times before I finally figured out what
would work ...

The other thing I figured out early on is that the performace hit you take
for doing the VPN really needs to be offset by some significant benefit
other than linking the two Astlinux boxes ... I found that just opening the
port for IAX and using Asterisk's built in "multiple server" capability was
a better solution for routing calls between branch office Asterisk servers
... However, if you need other resources shared with the branch office, the
VPN offers advantages ...

Darrick,

Thanks for the pointer.
I'll have a look at OpenVPN and I'll take you up on your offer ;-)

And if I get anywhere then I'd be happy to turn my experience into a HowTo.

Regards,

-Graham-

You could do this with OpenVPN. Have one box act as the "server" and
configure the other as a client. Make sure the server box is up and
accessible first, then connect the server. Details on the config files
can be found at http://www.openvpn.net

If you have specific questions when you get started, I'd be happy to
help, but at this point I don't have the spare time to write a howto.
