You are right about miniperl, but I just compiled the perl 5.8.5, using not astlinux but with the toolchain from http://www.uclibc.org/downloads/root_fs_i386.ext2.bz2
The trick with that Perl IO Abstraction is still valid.
"make test" give me "Failed 5 tests scripts out of 789, 99.37% okay". I will report with more result later.

Nguyen,

That message discusses using mini-perl which is already something that
can be included in AstLinux.  Mini-perl isn't adequate for some of the
projects.  That message is also from 2003 which is quite old in terms of
busybox and mini-perl, both of which have undergone significant changes
in the last three years.
