I am hoping to open
up a whole new can of worms for discussion ... I took a look at the archive and
do not find any significant prior discussion of this issue ... I have a pretty
thick skin so go ahead an throw rocks at me if you think I am way out of line
...
The issue I am
soliciting ideas on is phone/ata provisioning ... right now, there is nothing in
Astlinux that provides the system admin with any help in this area ... even the
ability to upload from the admin web interface to the tftpboot folder would be
an improvement over the current lack of any support for this function
...
At the far side of
the spectrum would be a template system that contains sample config files for
popular phone and ata models ... the web interface would ask you to fill in the
MAC address of the selected device and set a few parameters, then like magic
would create the required config files in the tftpboot folder ... this
would be the ideal end product ...
Now before any of
you wise guys chime in and say, "great idea Gary, when can you deliver it",
please understand that my programming skills were honed in the days of Z80
assembler ... I can push and pop with the best of them but have no concept of
how these new high level programming languages work ... suspect would take me a
year to plaster "I are a programmer" on a web page ...
So what I am really
asking for is support in general for the idea from the community so we can
gently apply pressure ... and perhaps generate enough interest in the idea that
a few people would be willing to open up the check book and put some cash on the
table so we can entice the developers here to give the idea serious
consideration ...
On systems where you
are dealing with 1 or 2 phones this would not really be that big a time saver
... but if you were dealing with a system that supports 10 to 20 various
phones and ata's this would be a godsend ...
Ok, its on the table
for discussion ... any others have ideas on this issue ???
