Have you consider using Sqlite? Much smaller and already ported even to 
uClinux...
It's already supported by PHP and partially by Asterisk... compiles easily 
with uClibc...
Also, it wouldn't be had to add additional storage to astlinux (such as 
harddrive), if really necessary.
