The Netstix will soon be bootable off of the Compact Flash out of the box.

Now that this critical issue has been resolved, will there be
Netstix-compatible Compact Flash images released for 0.4.4?

Of course people with older versions of the Netstix with the version of
U-Boot that supports Compact Flash will have to change the bootcmd as
described in:
http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Root_filesystems

People with even older versions of the Netstix will have to update the
factory U-Boot and root filesystem which is described here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.gumstix.general/8544/matc
h=flashcp

If this does not work, you are stuck with either buying a serial port
adapter and opening the box or sending the Netstix back to Gumstix for
reflashing.

Mind you, I do not actually have a Netstix yet, but I have been doing a lot
of research into the issues of Astlinux on Netstix.
Do not ask me any questions about the upgrade because I have not done this
myself.

On the Netstix, it would be really great to mount the filesystem on the
onboard flash.
That way, the web backup script (backup.php) can be modified to put a copy
of the backup onto both /mnt/kd and the mounted filesystem on the onboard
flash.
By this simple change, you have multiple redundant backups in case of flash
failure.

Here is a copy of the response from Gumstix:

It will be in future revisions.

I have a patch which is being tested now which does this. It will be
committed to the buildroot in the next few days, and will be in the
next flash image which will go onto gumstix manufactured probably
starting with our November build, ie for sale starting around the end
of november (plus or minus leftover October inventory which will get
shipped out first).
