It seems all that can be done is everyone to beat up on Digium to get them to compile the alternate version. As Asterisk popularity has grown, Digium has been more and more resistant to do certain things.
If the crowd noise is great enough, perhaps then they may listen.

This is a very frustrating issue, I've payed for an Asterisk G729a codec
license and deployed the associated g729 executable which Digium supplied for
use with an Asterisk 1.2 uClibc system. I've now upgraded to Asterisk 1.4 just
to find out that Digium have not complied an executable for use with Asterisk
1.4. (not to provide an upgrade path is pretty poor)

Try googling "For those of you who want to test g729a" and folow your nose,
just remember g729a is a non- free codec and you need to look at the associated
legalities before using an alternate g729 codec (be warned, may be illegal in your
country if you don't pay the associated royalty fee)

Oh... sorry.

I read more into it after sending the email. Thanks for the clear picture.

Cheers,

You don't understand: it's not compatible with Astlinux (which uses
uClibc) because it was built to run in a glibc environment.

If it worked at all, it would be against huge odds and then only by
fortunate accident.

Thanks, Philip,

Ok. Hmm... is there anything I can do, to install the G729 codec without having
to compile it from scratch??

Can I simply copy the license across, without having to "register" it on the
box? Would that solve my problem?

It's a known issue with it not being compiled against uClibc.

Maybe Kris should put that into the FAQ? (hint, hint...)

Hi, all,

Has anybody else tried to register the G729a Codec from Digium??

Asterisk seems to "break" after registering the codec.

Cheers
