Hi,

I've spent the past couple of weeks working on a project I've given
myself to get Astlinux 0.6.1 running on a Dell PowerEdge 860. 0.4.8 ran
fine from the generic i586 image, installed on a 4GB CF connected via a
CF-SATA adaptor. The Dell is SATA throughout, although I think the
secondary channel has a bit of bridging to an IDE subsystem. I've run
make & installed a default i586 image (rev.2029), tried the pre-built
i586 images (both .gz and straight .img files) from
www.djhsolutions.com/astlinux , and run the live CD from the rev.2029
.iso, and they all halt during boot at the same point;

Freeing unused kernel memory: 148k freed

proc mounted

Runnix device not found

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

The live CD runs nicely on my old Ubuntu build system, which is IDE all
round. The reason I mention the SATA bit is that there has been mention
of this before, so I wondered whether anyone managed to solve it. In the
meantime I'm going back to 0.4.8.

I'd like to delve into Runnix with what I've learnt from building
Astlinux, having started from well within the "Linux newbie"
demographic, but I just can't do it right now.
