I have successfully used the Geni-586 image with the 1d and its built in vga port along with the keyboard/mouse splitter/adapter to a usb port sold by them
I thought I made a post to that effect the other day.

I didn't make the CF on the Alix, but installed one I made elsewhere into it.
This was an earlier 0.5 version, but I assume any should work.
I generally am not impressed with the 1d though.
Between the shipping from the manufacturer, the rather poor vga resolution, and the fact that, for some reason I can't boot Damn Small Linux from a USB, I think the HP thin clients are a better buy if bought properly off eBay
Just my opinion, of course. Worth what you paid for it.
