I use an older 3 nic snapgear router (SG570) to front end my cable modem and DSL service for VOIP.
Snapgear routers are linux based and do a pretty good job at failover and load balancing. They are also based on uclibc and operate much like astlinux in many aspects (and have more or less the same design goals) -- a linux core with a simple GUI for admin. On the snapgear, you can set up "policy" routes to select which WAN connection gets used first as the default route, and if the primary fails, the router just sends traffic over the secondary. But, they have been EOLd by their last corporate owner (Mcafee) so no more new units. They seem to come up on ebay regularly and are "bid after" as desirable pretty often. Another nice feature is their ability to construct IPSEC tunnels between units that are both on dynamic IP connections. This makes life easy for remote admin of just about everything. BTW they also support QOS reasonably well... I think I must have 15 or so of these out in the field.. I'd go for a SG570, SG575 or SG560 and load the 3.2.2 firmware release. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [email protected].
