I quite like the Asterisk-GUI (from Digium) and it works well in Ast 1.4.44. I
can see why Digium wanted to get rid of it, probably because it made
everything EASY. They probably want to make more money from support, so they
ditched it. Programming using the GUI is incredibley convenient. Manually
editing *.conf is OK for occassional use, but I find manually writing the
*.conf a complete BILATERAL BALL ACHE. We need GUI to make programming ast
easier, simpler and quicker, especially for the noobs like me who know enough
not everything. The only crap thing about it is that it is slow and consumes
quite a bit of memory, sometimes 225MB! That's about the same as Trixbox!! I
want to use Astlinux, but I need an easy way to programme it, that's why I
stick with ast 1.4.44 as I can use the GUI. If I can't use GUI then I will not
upgrade past Astlinux 0.79 (with ast 1.8.4.4).
Those are just my thoughts about the subject!

Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] Astlinux Asterisk-GUI and asterisk 1.8.4.4
i read somewhere on asterisk forums that developers have fixed many issues
which
the gui was having in the past with ast 1.8.x , and yet its not compatible with
ast 11, i'm sure that its not compatible with asterisk 11, becoz many functions
of asterisk 1.8 are deprecated in asterisk 11. for exampls SetCallerID function
of ast 1.8 has changed in ast11, but the digum asterisk gui still has this
function which i had to remove manually from dialplan , if you use it with
asterisk 11 you'll see errors being reported on CLI, and caller ID will not be
shown on dahdi channel actually it didn't work, on this i made guess that this
gui won't suporrt asterisk 11, otherwise digum gui worked fine for simple use
like setting up dahdi channels, trunk and sip stations and setting IVRs with
asterisk 1.8.x. it would be better if digum gui is removed from asterisk 11,

asterisk 1.8. I remember there were some problems with it and asterisk 1.8,
were
these ever resolved so that it worked perfectly with asterisk 1.8 or did they
just abandon the asterisk-gui project? I quite like the asterisk-gui and have
used it previously with asterisk 1.4.44 which it appears to work with. I'd like
to continue using it with astlinux 1.8.4.4 if anyone confirms that it works OK
with it.
