Out of curiosity, which UPS do you  have ?  From the link below which NUT 
driver does it use ?

I personally would not trust a USB->Serial dongle for UPS communication, but it 
may possibly work.  We do have CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_FTDI_SIO=m in our kernel.

Do you have a spare serial port other than the console port on your AstLinux 
hardware ?
