I can't comment on the fax side of things, and I'm also rather out-of-date,
but I've had excellent experiences with berofix. They have the advantage
that you don't get involved with low-level drivers - the internal interface
to the host hardware is SIP over TCP/IP. I've only used the BRI and PRI
modules, but I imagine the FXSes should be fine.
