Since I previously had this working with the madwifi driver, I thought the problems were on the driver level. But as you say, at this time I need help understanding hostapd rather than the driver. I should probably also switch to the packaging of hostapd John W. Linville is preparing for Fedora (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=548180).
