I have a Sony Vaio laptop (model VPCF111FDB) with an Atheros 9287 device in it.
This is the lspci output:
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Device 002e (rev 01)
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2 (32 bit) which uses kernel 2.6.31 so it doesn't have
support for the 9287 device by default. I've downloaded the sources from the
web site, done the make, and loaded the new modules but I don't get any
further. I see the following in the dmesg output when I rmmod and then
modprobe the ath9k module:
[ 1647.753721] ath9k: Driver unloaded
[ 1757.500801] Generic kernel compatibility enabled based on linux-2.6.33-rc4

[ 1767.859337] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
Here is the iwconfig output:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
I've tried setting the access point but it doesn't ever change in the iwconfig
output.
Should this be working? Do I need to load firmware? Any ideas?
I've tried both compat-wireless-2.6.32.8 and compat-wireless-2.6.33 but get the
same results with both. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
