Thanks for the replies. modprobe -r ath9k took down the wifi. But the power still drained during suspend. Physically removing the card solved the issue. The Wi-Fi card is an Atheros AR9462. This issue did not occur on my previous Atheros card (abg only) where the battery life was fine during suspend. The battery goes from full to flat in 5 hours. Without the card in (and with the old card) the battery would be at 85%,
