A singularly effective means of increasing affiliate membership, training
tomorrow's leaders, improving the ability of current leaders, and creating a
vibrant, active and empowered state affiliate is in the holding of
leadership training seminars.

It is this concept that led to the initial contacting of several Midwestern
states by one time Iowa President Mike Hoenig. With the initial conference
call taking place August 25, 2010 with Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, & Kansas,
the planning began.

We are pleased to announce that with the enthusiastic endorsement of the
leadership of the American Council of the Blind and agreed participation
from Illinois and Indiana, the Midwest Leadership Training seminar is
scheduled for the weekend of August 19-21 in St. Louis, MO at the St. Louis
Marriott West located at 660 Maryville Centre Dr. St. Louis, MO 63141 It
is the responsibility of each participant to secure their own room
reservations by July 20, 2011. Please call 1-800-352-1175. To secure the
discounted group rate of $70 per night plus applicable taxes, be sure to
identify yourself as being with the Midwest Leadership Conference. For folks
requiring ground transportation from either Lambert/St. Louis International
Airport or Amtrak, please make your desires known on the enclosed
registration form. For planning purposes, all registration forms must be
postmarked, with a payment of $20.00 included for each participant, no later
than July 20, 2011 (See the registration form for the complete mailing
address.)

registration beginning the afternoon of August 19 at 4:00 and continue
through Sunday, August 21 at 12:00 noon. (See the program agenda below for
the planned activities.)

The theme for this Midwest Leadership conference is the "ABC's of ACB
Leadership." Each agenda item works around this theme to provide a cohesive
and meaningful conference experience. Here are some highlights to which
attendees will be introduced:
