HHS Providing More than $1.7 Billion to States to Help Low-Income Households
with Energy Costs

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is sending more than
$1.7 billion to states to help low-income citizens with their heating and home
energy costs. The money is being issued under the Low Income Home Energy
Assistance Program (LIHEAP) block grant. LIHEAP assists qualified families with
their home energy needs such as heating in the winter and cooling in the
summer. Individuals interested in applying for energy assistance should contact
their local/state LIHEAP agency.
