I don't think a caller id would work BECAUSE such phones have multiple lines and it is only when one is passed through from the main phone number directly to your desk that the connection to the phone you are using is activated. I can't even tell on mine at work that I have a voice mail message because that information is only indicated by a light on the phone. I think mine has twelve lines plus buttons to page all phones or a particular one in the office of about twenty connection extension numbers. I can do most functions, like changing to speaker phone, forwarding a line to ring at someone else's desk if they have been mistakenly routed to me, Mute my line, change the volume of the handset or speaker phone and that kindof thing. It is such a complicated system that I made myself a braille cheat sheet to remember what all the buttons do.
