Google held a news conference Thursday to talk about its ultra high-speed Internet service and announce its new television service. The service is part of the company's fiber project. Kansas City was selected as the first city for the project to launch. Google Fiber executives said the with download and upload speeds of 1,000 megabits per second, it would change the television experience. The high-definition television service would include all major broadcast networks and video-on-demand for a monthly fee. Executives said the television service would be able to record up to eight TV shows. The company will offer three packages. The first package, which includes gigabyte, plus TV service, would cost customers $120 a month, plus a $300 fee to bring fiber into a user's home. Executives said the construction fee would be waved with a two-year contract. There is a second package for the faster Internet service service only for $70 a month with the same connection fee. The third option is the conventional current broadband service for $25 a month. Google executives said they'll it leave up to Kansas City's neighborhoods to petition for service. Areas that exhibit the strongest demand will get the services installed first.
