One of the first things a person needs to learn when using a
computer is the keyboard. In-particular a blind person. A sighted person
can use the hunt and peck system or click on an item on the screen. A blind
person however; can't see the screen or the keyboard so it is vital for them
to learn how to use the keyboard.

I have used a program called, Typeability for several years
when teaching the keyboard to my clients and it has always been a great
learning tool. But with the release of version 4.2, Typeability is even
better.

By default it is more geared for younger children and tells
a dumb joke whenever a lesson is completed successfully. This and other
options such as, how well the person knows the keyboard, how fast Jaws
speaks and what kind of keyboard you are using can all be changed in the
user settings by doing a control U after you launch the program.

The new version has a total of 99 lessons that takes you
from typing the correct keys on the keyboard to selecting and copying text
and using the insert key in conjunction with other keys. I probably need to
add that Typeability only works with Jaws and Magic.

When the lesson is completed it tells you your speed of
typing and your percentage of accuracy. Then you have a choice of taking
the lesson over again or moving on to the next lesson.

You can download a free trial copy of Typeability by going
to: www.yesaccessible.com. Or you can download the manual to see all that
Typeability does by going to:
http://www.yesaccessible.com/typeabilitydownload/TypeAbilityHelp.rtf.

So if you are a beginner on the keyboard or just want to
brush up on your typing you might want to give it a try. Or you might want
to share this with someone you know that is struggling with learning how to
use the keyboard.

Thanks!
