Okay, now I have read the thread.  The update probably didn’t install 
correctly.  You may have to uninstall Jaws only, then reload, either from your 
CD, or by downloading the full  version from the site.  This means using 
Narrator or another screen reader for the short time you won’t have speech.  
Again, Freedom will help at no cost.

Darla is correct.  Insert, otherwise known as Jaws Key, should open the 
shutdown jaws dialog box.

Control won’t shut it up; insert-f4 won’t shut it down, and it seems to be more 
verbose than the intermediate level I have it set up for.

 

I am running the latest build of JAWS on a windows 7 machine.
