Hello all,
Passing along. Read below. CS ---------- From: Anindya Bhattacharyya Sent: Monday, November 6, 2017 1:39 PM Hello all, Thought to share this info for your own knowledge. Perhaps you are already aware but till now upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8 has been possible for those using assistive technologies That will no longer be the case after December 31, 2017. If you or know others using assistive technologies who have good working Windows computers running either Windows 7 or 8 and wish to upgrade to Windows 10, now is the time to do it! See the link below: www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade Also, I’ve been testing Narrator, a Windows 10 built-in screen reader, after updating my PC to Windows 10 Creators. My initial impression is that Narrator’s braille support is pretty good and ready to be used as a primary screen reader without needing JAWS or NVDA. However, compared to 3rd-party screen readers, bralle support remains to be determined for max accessibility and functionality. Reading on Microsoft’s website, it appears that they are working hard to make Narrator a robust screen reader with braille support. I’ve also noticed recently that when setting up a new Windows 10 PC, speech output is enabled which is stnadard now while configuring the OS with your credentials till you reach the desktop. There is no way you can turn the speech off, a feature very helpful for blind people who want to set up new computers themselves. I know this feature is not beneficial for DeafBlind people yet. Blind Bargains has a review of braille here: www.blindbargains.com/bargains/php?m=17077 Best regards, Bapin "Let us act on the idea that everyone is included," -- Myrlie Evers-Williams Mr. Anindya "Bapin" Bhattacharyya Coordinator of Nat’l Outreach Adaptive Technology Training Program/ Project Coordinator of Florida and Iowa Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Programs Helen Keller Nat'l Ctr for Deaf-Blind Youths & Adults 3075 Adeline St., Ste. 110 \ Berkeley, CA 94703 Purple VP 415-625-0544 \ Purple VP for assistant 415-255-5847 \ Sorenson VP: 510-735-8521 E-mail: [email protected] AOL IM: BapinHKNC Website: www.hknc.org DATA PRIVACY AND SECURITY NOTICE: This e-mail message and any attached files are confidential and are intended solely for the use of the addressee(s) named above.
