Okay, I apologize in advance for my density...

Either I wasn't clear in my original post, or I am completely misunderstanding
your reply - the
ATrpms site has a subdirectory called "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4", which has a
listing for a Yum
rpm file in it. Is this not what I should use if I want to install Yum into
RHEL4?

That's what I was trying to do by downloading Yum from ATrpms, when I ran into
the dependancy
issue - the version of rpm required for ATrpms version of yum is higher than
the version of rpm
that is current with Red Hat, so it appears that in order to install yum, I
must upgrade to a
non-supported version of rpm. Is this correct, or is there a different package
which uses the
older versions of rpm ( and python, etc. ) that are part of RHEL4?

thanks again,

markus
