If you have in that controller 5 drives installed, you have 3 free. bus goes
4, 8, 12 steps.

So if you put there 3 500GB disks, make new raid-5 array of them, you get
1TB usable space.

Thanks!

For the RAID it needs to be 250GB drives. That's because if I put
2x500GB I would need to create a new RAID volume which requires one
driver to be used for RAID. If I add 250GB drives to the existing RAID
every drive's capacity gets fully added since the RAID5 extras drive
is already consumed.

E.g. with 2x500GB one gets 500GB netto, with 2x250GB one gets the
same, and with 3x250GB one gets 750GB.

The drives for the RAID device are Seagate ST3250823AS (232.89 GB), it
would be best to have the same type of drives.

If you want to arrange for shipping anything over please contact me in
PM.
