As I have answered you in asterisk-users, we have not really verified
that Asterisk sees the zaptel channel.
'zap show channels' returned "no such command".
Is chan_zap included in the package in the first place?
rpm -ql asterisk | grep chan_zap.so
If it is there, what happens when you run:
load chan_zap.so
