I have never done clean reinstalls instead of updates. Sure, one or two things
may break, but it is a lot easier and faster to fix something than it is
recreate everything.

My desktop was first installed with fedora 3 and has been upgraded since.

I always did straight yum upgrades, but now I like the preupgrade system.
'preupgrade' works great.

Nothing special. The same thing that happens with any rpm transaction.

Here are the details: http://www-uxsup.csx.cam.ac.uk/~jw35/docs/rpm_config.html

I like to run 'updatedb' and deal with 'locate rpmnew' and 'locate rpmsave'
after the upgrade.

Same thing as any rpm transaction.

'yum list extras' will help deal with the old junk.

My desktop just upgraded fc9->fc10 without a blip. My laptop required a small
xorg.conf modification after the same upgrade. No biggie.

'yum install preupgrade' - 30 seconds.
Run 'preupgrade', select Fedora 10, walk away - 30 seconds.
Click "Reboot", walk away - 1 seconds.

Once booted, deal with rpmsave/rpmnew, and extra packages - 30 minutes.

Go for it.
