VDPAU support was added to MPlayer two days ago, prior to this external
Nvidia patches were required.

It is still a work in progress (there are various problems), however as
it currently stands, MPlayer will never (by default) try to use VDPAU
(requires user to specify video output driver as vdpau & which vdpau
codec they wish to use).

ffmpeg & MPlayer are planning a release fairly shortly, so could always
hold off updating till the release (I don't believe it's far off).
