well, it's still there:

$ ls /dev/usb/
hiddev0

$ ps ax | grep lirc
 5236 ?        Ss     0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd --driver=macmini
--device=/dev/usb/hiddev0

No one was clicking the remote.There was no activity, unless there was
something behind the scenes that I'm not aware of.
