Hello Mosè, Not surprisingly, I fully agree with you, concerning the previous version being better. Not because of simplicity, but because the TeX part should look as much as possible as the standard \TeX logo. Also the community logo is about community, and is less well known as Emacs splash screen logo.
What I reproach the current version (that in http://www.dmf.unisalento.it/~giordano/auctex-index.html) with, is that it does not enough recall us of Emacs (just the colored E, right, but what is the connection to Emacs ?). Maybe, graphically, the AUC part should be made Emacs-ish. In Luis Fernandes's splash screen logo (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5f/Emacs-logo.svg) there are already letter a and c that are found alos in AUC, so we could reuse that and just create the u. Another alternative would be to use the font in which emacs is written in the Emacs community logo.
